Mailing Fine China

If you should ever find yourself having to mail a few pieces of china or an entire set with dozens of items, there are a few points to consider before doing so in order to avoid any accidents.  Let's face it, these heirlooms and cherished possessions are, indeed, investments.  All types of china no matter whether priceless or meant for the every day need to be protected during transit.  One cannot put a little bit of bubble wrap and a few packing peanuts and hope for the best, because inevitably, boxes will get handled many times before they reach their final destination.  This is why it is of the utmost importance to get the right materials for the job. It turns out that I just mailed a nice set of my beloved Wedgwood Drabware to an individual who was enthusiastic about acquiring this classic dinnerware for his home. Without a moment to lose, I gathered the pieces and set them aside in my office so that I could package and send them safely.  Boxes, bubble...

We've Moved!

I just wanted to let you know that my online store, Heritage Home , has moved to a different venue!  We are now selling a mix of vintage and contemporary items on Etsy, where shopping for unique and collectible products couldn’t be easier.  It was time to give way to new opportunities on this website and I’m so glad I did.  With so many artists, artisans and vintage dealers on Etsy, my  Heritage Home   items seemed to be a perfect fit for this platform.    A simple shopping cart and check out process will make acquiring the best of the best as simple as 1-2-3.   I had been meaning to make this transition for quite some time and now that it’s a sure thing, I hope you take the time to visit Heritage Home by David .  My love for the antique and vintage will never wane, so by offering a few pieces of kitchenwares and other housewares from yesteryear, you too will be able to mix & match your existing collections with some of thes...

Holiday Cookies

It's always a pleasure to bake and ice cookies during the holidays, because it allows us to express our creativity using our best and favorite cookie cutters.  This time-honored tradition is beloved by so many of us this time of year and I think you will agree, that the moment our loved ones near & far behold these edible creations, it makes all of that hard work worth it. The cookie cutters you use to create holiday cookies need not be priceless heirlooms, for just about any cutter can make exquisite cookies in festive shapes.  Some of my friends have been sharing images of their cookies with me and I have to say that I’m thrilled with everyone’s  artistry.  It’s amazing what a little icing and some sugar can do to a cookie!    Here at home, once my dozens of cookies have baked and cooled, I tint royal icing in batches, thinning out for flooding as I go.  Once I have gathered the icings, sugars, sprinkles and other edible decorati...

An October to Remember

So much happened this past month for me, my family and here on the blog.  As a blogger it's rather interesting to look back at what was covered & written about for any given time span, because it helps one focus on the future.  A couple of things that I'm very proud of occurred during the month and it's nice knowing there is a large amount of support from well wishers throughout the world.  I thank all of you! I began October with the M&M cookies that I had been meaning to get to for a couple of years after someone requested them.  Thinking about the different ways to make those particular cookies like the ones found at local bakeries, I finally came up with a foolproof method for keeping the candy-coated chocolates from becoming broken bits.  It's not that difficult to produce scrumptious cookies that kids of all ages adore.  Look at the post for the complete how-to.  Oh, don't forget, there is also a nice Rice Krispie pop treat that...
