Daffodils, Spring and Happiness

I was recently asked what my favorite spring flower was.  Without even thinking twice about it, I responded with daffodils.  Daffodils are such beautiful, delicate flowers that never fail to capture my eye if I spot them in people's gardens, at the markets and around my own home.  These harbingers of spring really do make me happy with thoughts of what the season has to offer. Spring is all about renewal and turning over a new leaf.  After reconnecting with a dear friend of mine and having conversations about moving forward with one's day to day life, I realized that it's the little things that matter.  I also recognized the fact that I'm in a very good place in my life at the moment.  I have so much to be thankful for, and for that, I am happy.  In fact, I am very happy! After this long winter and heavy snowfall here in our area, I was afraid that our snowdrops were never going to come out, but I was proven wrong.  I'm so glad I was.  Since I have an inordinate amount of these gorgeous flowers right now, I've been treating myself to a few arrangements every few days. Nothing grand or ostentatious mind you, because these tiny flowers require the simplest of vessels for display and noth...

Spring Crocuses

There's nothing like the diminutive beauty of crocuses right at the end of winter.  Some of the first pops of color that spring up for the start of the new season, crocuses always put a smile on my face because they signal change & renewal.  I suppose it's because after having those winter months devoid of a lot of color, that I love having something cheerful to focus my eye on when I look out the window.  If I’m baking a cake or a batch of cookies and I happen to look out from one of my sunny kitchen windows onto those cheerful flowers, it is pure bliss. Over the weekend it was just that.  Saturday and Sunday afforded us with some magnificent sunny weather and comfortable temperatures, along with the first signs of crocuses around the bases of our trees and across swaths of lawn.  I wasted no time in taking advantage of the splendid weekend, so I went outdoors after finishing my baking and walked around the house.   Crocus Vernus  ...
